No matter what industry we work in, all of us are expected to continue learning about our field and doing our jobs to the best of our abilities.
For some of us, we may want to climb the corporate ladder and earn bigger and better positions. For others, our employers or professional associations may encourage – or require – specific activities to make sure we’re fulfilling our responsibilities. We may also simply want to impress our supervisor, which can be even more difficult for the many workers around the globe who have shifted to remote work.
Whatever reason applies in your situation, the answer is often some form of additional training or learning. Two terms that are often brought up in this context are “continuing education” and “professional development.” These terms are related, but there are some key differences.
In this article, we provide a quick primer on the differences between continuing education and professional development, and we explore why pursuing them can be an effective means of advancing your career.
Defining Professional Development vs. Continuing Education:
At its core, “professional development” is an umbrella term that describes employees learning new skills and knowledge that they can apply to further success in their field.
The term “continuing education” describes one type of professional development in which an employee – typically someone who already has completed an academic degree – pursues additional learning from a higher education institution.
A Closer Look at Continuing Education:
How is continuing education unique compared to other types of professional development? Continuing education has traditionally been the domain of adult learners, non-traditional students, and people who’ve already earned their degree but desire to continue learning new skills. Continuing education includes any post-secondary course offered by a higher education institution, from personal enrichment courses to those required by employers.
Continuing education can be a vital lifeline to success and worthwhile employment. Not only do industries and technologies change, but employment can also change at any time. Continuing education can be worth it because it prepares working adults for such eventualities.
Many universities offer continuing education units – or CEUs – for students in industries like emergency medical services, fire science and others that require ongoing training.

A Closer Look at Professional Development:
Professional development includes any kind of investment in yourself for the purposes of advancing your career. Whether you’re looking to achieve a long-term goal at your current job or putting yourself in position to get a job with a new organization, professional development can help.
It can include a variety of activities, some requiring a big investment in time and money and others requiring very little. Some examples of professional development include:
1- Conferences.
2- Email newsletters.
3- Podcasts.
4- Mentorships.
5- Webinars.
6- Workshops.

مصر Egypt کے تاریخی اہرام آج بھی عجائبات عالم ہیں۔ اور اگر کوئی شخص، ادارہ یا سائنسدان یہ کہتا ہے کہ وہ اہرام کی تعمیر کے راز جانتا ہے، اسے پتا ہے یہ کیسے تعمیر ہوئے ،تو وہ سچ نہیں بول رہا۔ کیونکہ ہم نہیں جانتے ۔ہم یقینا بالکل نہیں جانتے ۔ یہ عالی شان اہرام اپنے اندر اسرار و رموز کا مجموعہ ہیں ۔لا تعداد اسرار کا۔ ہماری سمجھ سے بالاتر راز پنہاں ہیں۔ پہلا راز تو ان کا حجم ہے۔ یہ وسیع الجسامت ہیں ۔ ایک اہرام کا وزن 60لاکھ ٹن ہے۔ ہم نے وزن تو نہیں کیا، لیکن حجم سے اندازہ لگایا گیا ہے کہ یہ 60لاکھ ٹن سے ہلکا کسی صورت میں نہ ہوگا۔ زمین پر اس کا پھیلائو 13ایکڑ ہے ،زمین پر ان کی چوڑائی ہر جگہ سے 759.9 فٹ ہے۔ ہر سمت سے چوڑائی اتنی ہی ہے۔ زمین سے اس کی نوک تک اونچائی 48.6فٹ ہے۔ تعمیر میں ہزاروں بلاکس استعمال ہوئے ۔ یہ پتھر ہماری اینٹوں سے کہیں زیادہ بڑے ہیں۔ لیکن اگر ہم یہ کہیں یہ کافی بڑا ہے تو یہ صحیح تشریح نہیں ہوگی ،کیونکہ یہ صرف بڑا ہی نہیں ہے بلکہ اس کی تعمیر میں کئی سائنسی راز پنہاں ہیں۔
ReplyDeleteیہ ہمارے کرہ ارض کو مد نظر رکھتے ہوئے خاص انداز میں بنایا گیا ہے۔ اس کا زاویہ ایک خاص ڈگری پر رکھا گیا ہے۔ دور جدید میں میرا سامنا کسی ایسے ماہر تعمیرات سے نہیں ہوا جو اس زاویے کو مدنظر رکھتے ہوئے اس قسم کے پتھروں سے اتنی بلند وسیع اور بھاری بھرکم عمارت تعمیر کر سکے۔ یہ بڑا رسکی کام ہے۔ جس کا رخ صحیح شمال کی جانب ہو ، کوئی ماہر ایسا نہیں کرسکتا۔ میں یہ بھی نہیں جان سکا کہ قدیم مصریوں نے ایسا کرنا کیوں ضروری سمجھا۔ بلکہ شاید یہ عظیم الشان اہرام بنانے والوں کے ذہن میں کچھ اور مشکلات ہوں گی۔ ان کا مقصد صرف عمارت بنانا نہیں تھا بلکہ وہ اس کا زاویہ بھی کرہ ارض سے ایک خاص سمت میں رکھنا چاہتے تھے۔ اہرام مصرکے رخ بھی ہمارے کرہ ارض کے خاص زاوئیے پر ہیں۔ مگر میں یہاں بہت زیادہ اعداد و شمار دے کر آپ کو بور نہیں کروں گا ۔یہ شاید آپ کی سمجھ میں نہ آسکیں۔ لیکن اتنا ضرور کہوں گا کہ اگر آپ اہرام مصرکی اونچائی کو 43200سے ضرب دیں تو پھر آپ کو زمین کا نصف قطر (Radius)مل جائے گا۔ یعنی اہرام مصربنانے والے ماہرین کے ذہن میں زمین کا نصف قطر بھی تھا۔ اگر آپ 43200 کو اہرام مصر کے ''احاطہ‘‘ (Perimeter)سے ضرب دیں تو پھرخط استوا (Equitorial Circumference ) مل جائے گا۔یعنی زمین کے زاویوں کو مدنظر رکھتے ہوئے بلندی اور پھیلائو بنایا گیا ہے۔ یہ اس زمانے کی بات ہے جسے ہم ''سیاہ دور‘‘ کہتے ہیں ۔ ہزاروں سال پہلے ایسا کیسے ہوا جب لوگوں کو یہ بھی معلوم نہ تھا کہ کرہ ارض کیا ہے؟ خط استوا اور اس کا قطرکتنا ہے؟ ان تمام باتوں سے وہ ناواقف تھے۔
یہ اہرام اس راز سے پردہ اٹھاتے ہیں کہ اس زمانے کے لوگ 1سے 43200کے حروف تک واقف تھے کیونکہ یہ ان کی تعمیرات میں ایک جزو کے طور پر شامل تھے۔ یعنی وہ لوگ زمین کے حدود اربع اور سمتوں سے بھی واقف تھے۔ یہاں میں ایک اور حیران کن بات بتانا چاہتا ہوں ۔یہ 43200 کیا ہے؟ یہ بھی خاص نمبر ہے۔ کیونکہ یہ زمین کی حرکت سے اخذ کیا گیا ہے ۔
زمین اپنے محور سے ہر 72برس میں ایک ڈگری ہٹی ہوئی لگتی ہے یعنی (wobbles) کرتی ہے۔ اگر آپ 72کو 600سے ضرب دیں تو یہ نمبر نکل آئے گا۔ میں کافی حیران تھا ۔اس لئے بار بار چیک کیا کہ کہیں دھوکا تو نہیں کھا رہا ،تو پتہ چلا کہ ایسا ہی ہے۔
اہرام مصربنانے والوں نے ہمیں اس طرح زمین کے طول و عرض سے آگاہ کیا۔انہوں نے سکیل کی صورت میں ہر چیز کھول کر سامنے رکھ دی اور یہ انتہائی دانش مندانہ کام ہے۔ یہ علم کہاں سے آیا؟۔ ایسا کیسے ممکن ہوا ہے؟ اس کا نتیجہ میں یہی نکال سکتا ہوں کہ ایک بہت ترقی یافتہ انسانی کہانی اس کے پس منظر میں پنہاں ہے۔ اہرام مصر کی تمام باریکیاں تو کم از کم یہی کہتی ہیں۔ عام طور پر ہم دھوکا کھا جاتے ہیں لیکن اس کیس میں ایسا نہیں ہے۔ لگ بھگ بارہ ہزار برس قبل ایک انتہائی ترقی یافتہ تہذیب تھی جو ہم نے کھودی ہے۔
